This right here?…. This is a topic. In this blog, I’m going to get deep into purpose, vision, and bringing things back to their place. I’ve been through a good bit in the last 9 months from screwing up to crushing a meeting, this is just one thing that’s kept me whole.
Peyote and Rocks.. I bet you’re thinking I’m crazy right now, but hear me out. Everyone in life has a vision at some point. Whether it’s sitting on the back of a yacht with a bunch of people and toys or sitting in the front yard with a spouse and kids? Either way we all have some type of vision. While life can be fun, it moves so fast and everyone needs their peyote and rocks to keep them focused.
Here’s a story of how I needed to get back to my peyote and rocks. It had been another long 80+ hour work week and I was defeated. I was mad at everyone and nothing was going my way. Luckily we had our weekly training call that Friday and what we talked about saved me. I wasn’t sure if I was going to head home in the morning to see my family because of the drive, but after Jeff, our boss, gave us the talk I knew I had too. Jeff told us about peyote and rocks. Jeff’s peyote is surfing and his rocks are his family. My rocks are my family and my peyote is the outdoors. After a weekend of peyote and rocks, I forgot about what was making me mad and was able to focus on my vision.
Moral of the Story. Sometimes stepping back from a situation and taking the time to breathe, reflect, and think about it can give you a clear mind to get back to what you really want.
It actually depends on the day, but normally I am standing because I decided to purchase a standing desk. These are very expensive if you don’t know ($160-$250). Today though, I am sitting. When I sit at my desk I always wonder what it would be like to be one of the affiliate marketers who travel the world. Is that even reality? I’ve pondered the idea of video blogging, travel blogging, or instagram blogging, but I’ve never got myself to go for it. I watch people wake up on islands and live on floating houses and here I am at my desk. I hear everyone say ‘trust me it’ll be worth it’ but I feel like I’m also missing out on time.
This blog isn’t a way out for me and I hope y’all know this. This blog is a way for me to track my progress and learn with you guys as I go. I just wanted to clarify.
Now back to it. I’ve always had a call to the wild and I love the outdoors. I’ve dreamed of traveling the US in an RV and then traveling Europe from train to train. Does anyone have any advice on how to get into an industry that lets you travel? Not trying to leave mine but I would love to hear some ideas!
This is a question I always find myself asking. Why am I at this job? When it all comes down to it it’s for the money unless you are one of the lucky ones. The reason I find it so fascinating we say ‘here for the paycheck’ is because we spend so much time working on the things that surround us at work. Like the people, the office, the computers, the lighting… the list goes on.
I believe the secret to loving your job is to not only go to work for the pay check, but also for so much more. That’s when you start to have purpose and that’s when things become fun. That’s what I believe. I haven’t found my purpose yet because it’s still difficult for me to get excited over some of the work I do. I’m excited for what’d to come though because if it’s one thing I do have it’s Faith.
Does anyone out there have advice on how they found their purpose? I’d love to hear about some different stories.
Do you have a daily struggle? I know I do and I start each and every day with it. That struggle is simply putting my feet on the floor. If only I could spring out of bed like my boss always does to the song “All I do I Win” everyday! That would make everything easier, but that’s just not the way it works. If you have trouble waking up in the morning I have a few funny and helpful tips to get you out of bed! Here are my favorite 3:
1.) Close Coffee
There is one thing in the morning that gets my mind turning and that’s coffee. The issue was is it’s all the way in the kitchen and I would have to get up. So much like Michael Scott and his bacon in bed, I put a small coffee maker next to my bed and started it as soon as my alarm went off. It worked for me because I immediately accomplished something and I got coffee.
2. Alarm City
Once the coffee close to my bed didn’t work I had to find a new way. I was very good at getting out of bed and getting back into it. Something about the bed always called my name. What I did is I went on Amazon and bought 5 less than $10 alarm clocks and placed them around my room. This way once I was on about 3 I was awake and by 5 I was alive…LOL. This one has worked since even on my most tired days.
3. Christmas Morning
Everyone remembers that feeling you got the night before Santa came. That feeling you got of so much excitement. Do you remember how fast you jump out of bed that morning? What if you could jump that fast out of bed for work? This is what I call the Christmas Morning Technique. You find something to do first thing in the morning that will get you excited and ready to attack the day!
Those are just a few and if you have some more please share with me! I want this site to be interactive so I’m going to try to set up a forum! Please subscribe if you found this either funny or helpful!
